ACV Brasil in the EF 3.0 Data Provision project
Harmonised environmental-footprint methods depend on life cycle inventory data that are consistent, documented and suitable for the methodological requirements. In this context, ACV Brasil participated in the EF 3.0 Data Provision project, led by ecoinvent, with PRé Sustainability and Blonk Consultants among the consortium members.
The project was designed to support the transition phase of the European Commission's Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) and Organisation Environmental Footprint (OEF) methods. Its work involved preparing life cycle inventory datasets compliant with the modelling and data-quality requirements of Environmental Footprint version 3.0.
Background data for multiple sectors
The consortium and its partners contributed to the provision of more than 1,300 processes across sectors including plastics, renewable materials, agri-food, textiles and chemicals. Supply chains were aligned with the EF 3.0 nomenclature and included background data for energy, transport, packaging and end of life.
Distribution through the Life Cycle Data Network was intended to support the application of PEFCRs and OEFSRs, which combine organisation-specific primary data with secondary background datasets.
Why does data quality matter?
A harmonised method does not, by itself, guarantee comparable results. The technological, geographical and temporal representativeness of inventories, the consistency of metadata and compatibility with modelling rules are equally important.
The EF 3.0 Data Provision project illustrates international collaboration to strengthen the data infrastructure needed for life-cycle-based environmental assessment. ACV Brasil's participation formed part of a wider partner network contributing to the availability of background data across sectors.
